Messages from a Silent River

The brilliant Hypha Studios gave Ground Collective the opportunity to create a mixed media response in the form of a group show in the abandoned cafe of 1 Poultry. This iconic Trumpton-like office block slices towards Bank tube station and the hidden Walbrook River, which flows below ground in front of this 1990s post-modern concoction. Co-curated with Marcia Teusink, and with guest artist Tracy Hill, each contributor responded in bold ways to the surprising and demanding space. The opening included a mesmerising Butoh dance by Yumino Seki – strangely connecting the streets of the City of London with the contents of the gallery space. Nov 7 – Dec 6 2026.

View out of to the streets from the gallery, Marcia Teusink’s screen print ‘The River Whispers its Complaint’ hanging over Tracy Hill’s ‘Ephemeral Bodies’ made of carborundum on the right hand side on the floor, and Mike Sim’s poem ‘Walbrook’ adhered onto the window.

Installation view of ‘Listening’ in the strange white formica walls of the backroom of the venue. The installation includes materials such as ceramics, horsehair and string.
